Sip, Savor, Repeat: A First Taste of the New Menu at Wine O’Clock Boutique
If there’s one thing we’ve learned from our latest visit to Wine O’Clock Boutique, it’s this: when great wine meets truly inspired food, magic happens.
Tucked in the heart of Playa del Carmen, on Calle 20 between 25th and 30th Avenues, Wine O’Clock Boutique is one of those places that makes you feel like you’ve stumbled upon a best-kept secret. More than just a wine shop, it's a warm, welcoming space where you’re just as likely to discover your next favorite bottle as you are to make new friends over a shared plate and a glass.
Their focus is on high-end wines from around the world, but there’s a special pride in their selection of Mexican labels, and rightfully so. From Baja to Coahuila to Querétaro, Wine O’Clock offers a curated journey through the country’s most exciting wine regions. We’ve personally found some of our all-time favorite Mexican wines here, thanks to Gerson, the passionate and knowledgeable owner who makes every visit feel like a personal tasting.
This week, Gerson invited us in for a preview of the new seasonal menu crafted by Chef Gerardo Estrada, and we can confidently say: it’s a game-changer.
Chef Estrada’s approach is rooted in the philosophy of pairing. Every element of each dish is designed to complement the flavor profiles of the wines in-house, not just to match them, but to bring them to life. It’s thoughtful, elegant, and absolutely delicious.
We were treated to six new dishes, each one more memorable than the last:
Red Shrimp Aguachile: A zesty mix of cascabel chili, avocado emulsion, cucumber, and red onion. Bold and refreshing, this dish hit all the right notes.
Fish Chicharrón Taco: Featuring a creamy bean purée, tangy kimchi mayo, key lime, and crispy cucumber. A clever, crunchy twist that kept us going back for more.
Confit Pork Jowl Taco: Served with a rich peanut sauce and roasted spring onion. Silky, tender, and bursting with umami.
Confit Pork Belly: On a bed of cascabel chili atole with roasted bok choy. A standout dish that practically melted in our mouths.
Garlic Butter Fish: Perfectly cooked and served with cacahuazintle corn purée, green pipián (pumpkin seed sauce), and roasted heirloom corn. A subtle yet flavorful harmony.
Basque Tart: A delicate dessert accompanied by red fruit compote. Creamy, slightly caramelized, and perfectly balanced.
Every dish was plated beautifully and prepared with precision. The textures, the sauces, the seasonings: everything was thoughtful and perfectly balanced . While we loved every single bite, the two pork dishes were absolute showstoppers. Cooked to such tenderness they could be cut with a spoon, they were rich, flavorful, and deeply satisfying.
What makes Wine O’Clock Boutique so special is its balance between refinement and approachability. Whether you're popping in to pick up a bottle for dinner at home or settling in for a slow evening of tasting and conversation at their communal table, the experience feels curated but never pretentious.
And that’s the charm: it’s not just about food and wine, it’s about connection. Connection to the stories behind the wines, the talent behind the dishes, and the people you share them with.
If you haven’t been yet, now is the perfect time. Wine O’Clock Boutique is open daily from 2:00 PM to 10:00 PM, and trust us, the new menu is reason enough to stay awhile.
Until then, we’ll be dreaming of pork belly and a perfect pour of Mexican wine. Salud!
